Nelson, British Columbia — Whitewater Ski Resort modernized its lift infastructure last winter by opening the Raven Chair. With its top terminal being further up the mountain than its predecessor, it also allowed Whitewater to add 123 skiable acres, with 14 new trails and glades joining the lineup. It was one of North America’s biggest and best terrain expansions that opened last season. For this upcoming winter, the Raven Chair will serve more advanced and expert terrain.
Last week, Whitewater Ski Resort announced on social media that it is expanding its in-bounds skiable terrain for the 2024-25 season. Whitewater is adding 60 acres of skiable terrain in the Goats area of the Ymir Bowl. This terrain features south-facing, alpine-style advanced and expert bowl skiing and riding. This area was previously considered as backcountry terrain, so this move makes it more accessible and safer for those who venture into it.
Yesterday, Whitewater provided more details about the expansion, explaining why they made it in-bounds terrain rather than keeping it out of bounds. The Raven Chair led to more usage, leading to some sketchy conditions for those who ventured into this area. It also gives Whitewater more bowl skiing, making it an excellent shredding spot for a powder day.
Other improvements for the 2024-25 season include tree removal on Goat’s Corner and Grizzly Glades to improve the riding experience, drilling boulders on runs to allow for easier grooming during the early season, refurbishing the Glory and Silver King chairlifts, adding fifty new parking spaces, along with more high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) parking near the Raven Chair for carpoolers, and buying a Prinoth snowcat.
Whitewater’s projected opening date is December 6th.
