Park City, Utah — If you take the Kimball Junction exit off I-80, the first ski resort you see in Park City is a bit surprising.

Utah Olympic Park, home to facilities that hosted the 2002 Olympics, has expanded its downhill skiing and snowboarding offerings in recent years. A few years ago, it expanded its skiable terrain by adding a high-speed quad.

However, while Utah Olympic Park has parts of its facility open to activities and public exploration, it does not offer lift-serviced skiing and riding to the public. This is reserved for athletes from local schools, colleges, and other athletic teams.

This year’s NCAA alpine skiing championship took place at Utah Olympic Park.

The public has a few ways to explore the area. First, you can get an uphill-skinning pass, which you can use during the day. This gives you access to some terrain, but not the competiive facilities. Option two is to hike up there during the offseason. The third option is to take a chairlift ride, which is being offered again soon.

This past weekend, Utah Olympic Park announced it will host summer/fall scenic chairlift rides. The chairlift rides will be held on weekends from September 5th through October 11th. Guests will ride the resort’s relatively new detachable high-speed quad chairlift, with views of the foliage and nearby ski resorts like Deer Valley and Park City Mountain Resort.

Tickets are expected to go on sale soon at UtahOlympicLegacy.org.

About Utah Olympic Park

Opened in 1992, Utah Olympic Park was originally designed for ski jumpers. However, by the time of the 2002 Winter Olympics, various facilities had been built to host events like ski jumping, bobsled, and skeleton. In the summer, some of the activities include ziplines, extreme tubing, an alpine slide, bobsled rides, hiking and biking trails, and aerial freestyle shows at the pool. In 2034, it will host various events during the Winter Olympics.

Lift-served downhill skiing and riding began in January 2020 with the opening of the Alpine chairlift. In March 2023, the park opened the Game-Changer chairlift, providing athletes with high-speed access to steep terrain.
