It may feel like there’s no end in sight to the summer, with temperatures still sitting in the 90s and the sun beating down. But meteorological fall starts in less than a month and temperatures are starting to drop. Before we know it the leaves will be changing color, the air will feel crisp, and snowmaking will be starting at your favorite ski resort.
Loveland Ski Area announced today that they’re just 50 days away from their scheduled snowmaking start. That means, if all goes right, October 3rd will see snow guns firing up around the Colorado mountain.
Snowmaking Starts in 50 Days
Of course the start of snowmaking doesn’t necessarily mean the start of the ski season is right behind. Loveland, like many ski resorts in Colorado, will open as soon as they can depending on the weather. Typically they announce opening day shortly before it happens, rather than far in advance.
Last year Loveland started snowmaking on October 13th and opened for the 2025/2026 winter season on Saturday, November 8th. That’s quite similar to the 2024/2025 season when Loveland started snowmaking on October 19th and opened on November 9th.
