Berthoud Pass, Colorado โ€” What’s known as some of the toughest terrain at an abandoned Colorado ski area will now have a different skiing experience.

This week, avid skier Parks Thomson was taking a trip through Berthoud Pass. While driving, he noticed something happening at The Fingers. A rock slide roared down the slope, resulting in the Index finger route being affected forever.

The Fingers is a part of Hell’s Half Acre terrain zone. In particular, that portion of The Fingers is referred to as The Index Finger. This terrain pod was a part of the Berthoud Pass ski area, which closed back in 2001. While the lifts and infrastructure were removed, this area has remained a popular spot among backcountry skiers and riders.

Parks ended up speaking with CBS Colorado about his experiences in the Fingers before the slide, and how it will impact the future of the slopes. As noted in the video below, skiers will need to do snow tests to assess damage to the face.
