A mystery hiker is earning praise online after apparently hauling 40 pounds of dry ice and 8 boxes of ice cream sandwiches to the summit of Colorado’s 14,006 foot Huron Peak. According to posts shared by multiple hikers, the man climbed to the summit, donned an ice cream cone costume, and announced “ice cream for everyone” before handing out the treats for free.

This was one of the greatest phenomenons I have ever seen on a Colorado 14er summit! This incredible man, after carrying 40 pounds of dry ice and 8 boxes of ice cream treats to the Huron Peak summit and putting on an Ice Cream Cone costume, out of nowhere announced, “Ice cream for everyone!” The 25 or so people on the summit were all shocked in awe at this, and we all also took him up on the offer! My vanilla ice cream sandwich hit the spot like no other summit treat ever.” – Todd Payne

Huron Peak

At just 14,006 feet, Huron Peak is the 52nd ranked 14er in the state of Colorado, but that does not make it an easy climb. The primary route to the summit is a 7 mile round-trip hike, featuring 3,500 total feet of elevation gain. The mountain sits in the Sawatch Range in the San Isabel National Forest. Closest towns to the trailhead incluce Granite, Buena Vista, and Leadville.

Mystery Ice Cream Man

While many sources have already covered the mystery ice cream man, nobody has actually identified the individual responsible nor his intention behind the stunt. Was it simply an attempt to bring joy to the many hikers that summit Colorado’s 14ers every day? Or was there another intention behind it.

Could it have been a fantasy football punishment, or punishment for some other bet? No matter the case, this man made the day of many exhausted hikers above 14,000 feet.
