Crested Butte is home to a monster. With a consistent 55-degree pitch, trees and rocks littered throughout, and little maintenance on the trail, Rambo is the steepest lift-accessed inbounds run in the America. But how would a European feel about this beast? Would they see it as just another ski run, or would they quake in their boots? German ski instructor Marius Quast took on the run and found it quite intimidating.
“After Breckenridge, Vail and Aspen, this was our fourth stop on the big USA and Canada trip. We have already seen some fails and falls on the Rambo ski slope online. By the way, the descent is marked with double black and the addition “Extreme” – in terms of steepness it doesn’t come close to the Harakiri, Streif and the Black Ibex, but it is significantly more demanding to ski because of all the piles of snow and obstacles.“
I have to say, it’s kind of nice hearing a European ski instructor confirm that our terrain is pretty difficult. Is it as steep as some of the insane inbound runs in Europe? No, but the moguls and trees make it super demanding.
