The summit of Mount Washington sits at 6,288 feet, the highest point in the northeastern United States. It is home to some of the worst weather in the world, with wind speeds historically reaching above 200mph at the summit. The mountain sees an average of 280 inches of snow annually, and wind-blown snow can reach depths of 10 to 40 feet in certain areas.
Despite the mountain’s intensity, thousands of people travel to the mountain to hike, ski, climb, and generally recreate every year. 25 people require rescue assistance on the mountain annually and around 150 people have died on the mountain.
