The oldest ski run in Aspen is far older than the ski resort itself. First cut by the Roaring Fork Winter Sports Club (now the Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club) in 1937, Corkscrew was originally planned as a place for locals to learn to ski before working at the planned Highland Bavarian ski area.
The run, funded as a public works project, was cut into a zigzag. Accessing it meant hiking from the top of a tow rope. Once plans for the Highland Bavarian ski resort were scrapped, Lift 1 was put up to access the already built trail. The Aspen Historical Society took a look at the run to celebrate the end of the 2024/25 season.
