Federal land managers are looking for a couple involved in a vandalism incident at an ancient petroglyph site near the Utah-Arizona border and are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to a “successful prosecution” of the suspects.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office received a report on November 23rd that two people had defaced the petroglyphs near the confluence of Wire Pass and Buckskin Gulch just east of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The Sheriff’s Office also received photos of two people who seem to be in the act of carving into the canyon wall.
“The Kane County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Land Management are investigating a report of vandalism at a cultural site near the confluence of Wire Pass and Buckskin Gulch in Kane County. Investigators are currently looking for the persons pictured in the attached photos for questioning. On November 23, 2024, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office received a report that the individuals in the photos below were observed defacing ancient petroglyphs.
