Alberta — Jasper’s road to recovery continues.

The Jasper community has slowly been recovering after a devastating wildfire in July and August. While the wildfire is still ongoing, it’s reached a point where residents and tourists can return. The latest sign of progress is the National Park announcing a batch of trail reopenings.

Today, the following trails at Jasper National Park reopened: Miette Mine, Sulphur Skyline, Dorothy Lake, and Christine Lake. All trails along Highway 16 between the East Gate and the north side of the Snaring River are open. For climbers, Morro Slabs is now open. In addition, pullouts and viewpoints on Miette Road, the Icefields Parkway, and Highway 16 (from East Gate to North Side of Snaring River) are also open.

However, various sections of the park and the town of Jasper remain closed. This includes the park’s campgrounds, the Overlander Trail, and the trail that connects the Mine Trail and the campground.

Jasper’s road to recovery will be long, but it’s great to see them making some progress.
