Have you wondered what it would be like to wear the new Apple Vision Pro while skiing?
It’s a question I asked an associate at the Apple Store last year, as many people compared it to ski goggles when the AR headset was first announced. The guy told me that it’s probably too bulky to be used due to the clunky battery pack that is a part of them. Turns out that there are a few reasons other than that that make skiing with them not a fun experience.
A few YouTubers have filmed themselves trying it out, as Eugene YK Chung and Ali Salman recently shared videos of their experience skiing while using the Apple Vision Pro as ski goggles. While it’s a shorter video, I think that Eugene gives more insightful reasons as to why the Vision Pro shouldn’t be brought out on the slopes.
The key thing appears to be when you’re skiing down the slopes, the Vision Pro will have a notification pop up saying that you’re moving too fast, leading to all the apps disappearing from the screen. The notification continues to pop up until you start moving slowly again. The other notable issue is that you’re wearing something that costs at least $3499. A single crash could end up being very costly.
For now, it seems like the Apple Vision Pro shouldn’t be used on the slopes.
