This ski season at Alyeska has been spectacular. So far this winter, they’ve received 497″ of snow at the top of the Glacier Bowl Express Chairlift. So is it time that we make the trip to the largest ski resort in Alaska? Well, it’s not for everyone.

In SkiBoyNY’s latest video, he discusses why you should or shouldn’t visit Alyeska. The top reasons to visit include its location, the lack of crowds, the ski resort consists of mostly advanced terrain, the major seasonal snowfall, the Christmas Chute, heli-skiing options, it being on the Ikon Pass, and the quaint town of Girdwood. The reasons to not visit include the challenges of reaching Alaska for most people, the small amount of skiable acreage compared to other major ski resorts, the ski days being shorter due to the sun, it could become more crowded in the future, and Girdwood is a small ski town with a lack of nightlife.

I think the most insightful reason is that there is a lack of skiable acreage. I’m personally curious to see whether Alyeska’s future development plans include new lifts and terrain.
