With Western North America seeing a historic winter, many skiers and riders are hoping for season extensions at their hometown ski resorts. This brings us to Bridger Bowl in Bozeman, Montana, which is set to close for the season on April 9th. While guests have been hoping for a season extension, Bridger Bowl is sticking to its set closing date.

Yesterday, Hiram Towle, who is the General Manager of Bridger Bowl, wrote a letter to their customers, which explained why they’re closing this Sunday. One of the factors is the reduction in staff, which typically happens near the end of the season. The other major factor is the upcoming ridge in the forecast, which will bring warm weather. Typically, this has brought wet slides to the upper mountain, and sticky snow on the lower mountain. Bridger’s upper mountain features extremely steep terrain with major avalanche risks.

This is a very transparent and thorough answer from Hiram Towle. Commenters on social media have had overwhelmingly positive responses, meaning that Hiram did a great job explaining their reasoning. For those looking to get some turns around Bozeman after they close, Big Sky will remain open until April 23rd.
