Colorado Foundation Gives Wheelchair Users The Chance To Summit 14ers

Hiking to the peak of a 14er is really an incredible experience. Being able to see for miles with little obstruction and not having a road or parking lot right next to you, it’s pretty sweet, and it’s something I would encourage everyone to try to do! Unfortunately, there are people who simply don’t have the ability to go for a long hike, but that shouldn’t stop them from being able to reach incredible peaks.

Fortunately, The Lockwood Foundation agrees with that sentiment, and, since 2018, they’ve worked to give wheelchair users the ability to go on non-accessible adventures. They use TrailRider chairs, single wheeled off-road wheelchairs which can be operated with 2-8 volunteers, to help people like Bev Davis to reach the highest peaks.

If you’re interested in volunteering with the foundation or donating to their cause, you can find more information here. You’ll have to fill out a waiver and RSVP for a specific event, but you’ll be just steps away from enjoying a beautiful hike with a significant hike!
