Vail-owned Mount Snow, VT is implementing new parking fees at more than half of their lots in order to “improve the guest experience”.

Here’s the full statement from Mount Snow’s website:

Updated Parking Plan for Winter 2021-22
As part of our ongoing effort to improve the guest experience at Mount Snow Resort, we are implementing a new parking plan for the 2021-22 winter season. Premium parking for a daily fee will be available each day in Lot A and Upper Carinthia. On weekends and holidays, Lot B, Lot C, Sundance, and Lower Carinthia will also be paid parking. Lot D, Lot E, and the Tiered Lots – which comprise nearly half of the resort’s total parking – will remain free daily, and all lots will be free after 1 p.m. throughout the season. Payment will be handled electronically through an application accessible via smartphone. These changes will help ensure faster, more efficient parking for all our valued guests, especially at our busiest times. More information coming soon.

Nearly half of the lots will remain free, and some of the lots will only charge fees on weekends and holidays.

This seems all find and dandy for skiers and riders who live nearby Mount Snow, right? They can either just show up after 1 PM and park at any of the lots for free, or just avoid riding on the busiest weekends/holidays.

But what about the people from out of town? Many will be forced to pay to park in one of Mount Snow’s new paid lots due to the absence of available free parking spots on the busiest days.

This is posed as making more efficient parking for [their] valued guests”, but it’s really just a way for the resort to make more money.

Let’s be clear about that.
