On Saturday Lindsey Vonn captured her 50th World Cup victory in freezing temps (13 F) on the Kandahar downhill course in Garmisch Germany. This is a HUGE achievement! Vonn is the winning-est U.S. alpine racer ever and only a handful of athletes in the history of the sport have reached such a landmark.
On the women’s side only two other skiers are ahead of Vonn. Annemarie Moser-Proell of Austria holds the record with 62 World Cup Victories, Vreni Schneider of Switzerland finished her impressive carrier with 55 wins and Lindsey Vonn now sit’s in 3rd at the age of 27 with 50 wins, 25 of which have come from Downhill.
Only three men in ski racing have stood on top of the podium more than 50 times, each one a legend in the skiing world. Ingemar Stenmark or Sweden at 86 W’s, Hermann Maier of Austria with 54, and Alberto Tomba of Italy with 50 even.
After her recent slalom victory in Cortina, Italy Vonn had said:
“Records in skiing are really important to me. The history in our sport is something you can look back on when your career is over and really be proud of what you accomplished.”
Vonn is no doubt cultivating a legendary legacy in skiing. Here at unofficial we haven’t really kept up perfectly with the entire history of Vonn’s career, but we have taken account of a few notable moments. Especially in recent months.
Here is a sort of history of Lindsey Vonn posts in order of publication. Keep on winning Lindsey! And thanks for keeping it interesting.
