Aspen, Colorado — If you are thinking about taking a trip to Aspen next winter, Aspen has a new pass that could be appealing.
Last week, Aspen Snowmass announced the introduction of the Flex Pass. This pass gives riders 4-7 days at all four mountains (Ajax, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, and Snowmass) that are a part of Aspen Snowmass. This pass is without blackouts, meaning you can go any day of the season. It replaces the Valley Pass, which offered 7 days for purchasers. Those who purchased the Valley Pass last season will be able to acquire the new Flex Pass for 20% off. The Flex Pass starts at $679 but will increase in price over time.
“Aspen Snowmass has always been focused on delivering the best mountain experiences in the world,” said Geoff Buchheister, the CEO of Aspen Skiing Company. “We’re evolving our Pass lineup to provide more ways to experience Aspen Snowmass. By offering a range of options—from the comprehensive Premier Pass to the more flexible Flex Pass—we’re creating greater choice and value for guests, while opening the door for people who have always wanted to ski Aspen Snowmass to find a pass that works for them.”
Ski resorts have been selling these day packs to frequent visitors. The Epic Day Pass and the Ikon Session Pass have offered an in-between option for those who plan to visit only 1 to 7 days per season. While Epic has gotten flak for its lift ticket prices, its Epic Day passes actually offer good value if you purchase ahead of time. For example, if I were to get 7 Epic Day tickets to ski solely at Attitash and Mount Sunapee, it would cost $66 per day, or $46 per day with a 7-pack.
For those who want to take a vacation to Aspen without diving deep with a full Ikon Pass, or a Colorado skier who plans to make a few trips there, this new Flex Pass makes a lot of sense.
For people who want to ski exclusively at Aspen Snowmass without any limitations or blackout periods, the Premier Pass is the way to go. It won’t come cheap, costing $3,099 for adults. There is a $100 discount code for renewers, but it is only valid for a limited time. However, local teachers can secure the pass for $1,000 and a 7-day Flex Pass for $400. Aspen also offers various local student pass products.
Aspen plans to work on various improvements this summer, including the completion of the all-electric Ullrhof Restaurant at Snowmass. Other recent upgrades include the Hero’s expansion at Aspen, a new lodge at Buttermilk, and new lifts at Snowmass.
