Cortland, New York â€” New York’s ski industry is experiencing warmer winters. While this past ski season provided a welcome reprieve from a concerning trend, ski resorts like Greek Peak are preparing for a potentially warmer future by purchasing new snowmaking infrastructure.

Over the next 4-6 years, Greek Peak Mountain Resort plans to add more than 250 new HKD snowmaking guns. This will entail a snowmaking expansion on the Olympian trail along with the East Side of Greek Peak, which will enable the ski resort to quickly open more terrain. They also plan major snowmaking upgrades to the Upper & Lower Pollux, Marathon, Wendy’s Way, and Alpha trails.

This offseason, a $2.51 million snowmaking enhancement project is underway. New water and air pipelines are being installed in the Karyatis, Zephyr, and Epicurus areas. For Epicurus, the upper section of the trail will now have snowmaking for this upcoming winter. Later this offseason, pipelines will also be added to the East Meadow and Boardwalk trails. A new snowmaking pumphouse is currently being built, featuring four valves as part of the system.

Situated near the Finger Lakes, Greek Peak is the largest ski resort in central New York. Greek Peak has 56 trails, 8 lifts, 300 skiable acres, and a vertical drop of 952 feet. Greek Peak also features a variety of summer attractions, including an aerial ropes course, disc golf, lift-serviced mountain biking, and UTV tours. There are various lodging options on site, including the Hope Lake Lodge. This lodge is home to the Cascades Indoor Waterpark, along with a spa.
