West End Chairlift at Powderhorn Mountain Resort.
West End Chairlift at Powderhorn Mountain Resort.

A piece of Colorado skiing history is up for grabs as Powderhorn Mountain Resort has launched a public auction for original chairs from its retiring West End Chairlift, running June 1st through 7th.

The West End lift has served skiers and snowboarders since 1972. With deconstruction now underway and the lift’s replacement, the Wild West Express, in active development, Powderhorn is offering the public a one-time opportunity to take home hardware from one of its most storied pieces of infrastructure.

Each winning bidder receives one original Heron-Poma fixed-grip double chair, a numbered certificate of authenticity, and a commemorative tag. The chairs are sold as-is, preserving the weathering, wear, and character accumulated over more than five decades of service. No two chairs are identical. Each weighs approximately 250 pounds and will require multiple people or equipment to move.

All sales are final. Payment is required within the timeframe specified by the auction platform, and all bids must be submitted through Powderhorn’s online portal.

A portion of chairs, numbers 206 through 210, have been allocated to local nonprofit partners rather than listed for public bidding.

Deconstruction of the West End line is progressing up the mountain, with old towers already on the ground beyond the intersection of Sweet Misery and Red Eye. The chairs now up for auction once rode that line through decades of first turns, powder days, and spring laps for generations of Powderhorn guests.

Bidding is now open and is available here.
