Another blast of arctic air is set to target the Eastern United States during the second week of February, with potentially record-breaking temperatures forecasted for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

According to NOAA‘s Climate Prediction Center, brutally cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills are expected to impact the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic between February 7th and 8th, with a High Risk of significantly below-normal temperatures. Some regions could experience record-breaking cold during this period, while high winds are also possible over these areas through February 10th, creating dangerous subzero wind chills.

Widespread Cold Risk Across Eastern U.S.

Moderate Risks of much below-normal temperatures are expected to linger over the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast through February 10th. The Florida Peninsula will also see Moderate Risk conditions February 7th-8th, with a Slight Risk covering the entire Eastern United States February 7th-13th.

Increased probabilities for below-normal temperatures will persist across the Eastern U.S. through the second week of February. However, temperatures may moderate after mid-February as forecasters indicate a pattern change is possible.

The Climate Prediction Center emphasizes that low temperatures combined with high winds can create life-threatening wind chills. Residents are advised to minimize outdoor time, dress in layers, and ensure pets and animals have adequate protection from the cold.

For ski areas across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, this arctic blast could bring excellent snow preservation conditions, though the extreme cold could impact operations and comfort. Resort guests should prepare for potentially dangerous wind chills and dress appropriately for extended outdoor exposure. The pattern change anticipated after mid-February could signal a return to more moderate winter conditions across the region.
