New Zealand — The Remarkables made waves when it announced its expansion into The Doolans this past spring. While this project is undergoing a newly expedited review process, the New Zealand ski resort plans to open another terrain expansion this winter.
This past weekend, The Remarkables announced that it is adding new terrain to its inbounds network. The Remarkables has added the Scarpa Bowl, which is known to locals as the Toilet Bowl, to its inbounds terrain. Previously, this was only accessible to backcountry skiers. With a vertical of around 500 meters (1640.4 feet), the bowl is comparable to a heli-skiing run. Guests will reach it by bootpacking from the top of the Sugar Bowl chairlift. Once guests reach the bottom of the slope, they return to the road, where a shuttle picks them up.
Here’s a perspective of what it looks like when there’s a decent amount of snowpack, which is not the case right now.
While this is exciting news for Queenstown skiers and riders, the new terrain doesn’t appear to be open yet. Like most of New Zealand, The Remarkables had a lack of snow to start the ski season off.
