A 69-year-old climber was rescued after falling approximately 70 feet in Colorado’s Eldorado Canyon State Park on Sunday, November 2nd.
According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the report of a fallen climber who was unconscious came in to the Communication Center at around 2:19pm. The 69-year-old and his partner were on the Chockstone climbing route when he fell around 70 feet.
Both nearby bystanders and rescuers worked to provide CPR to the man before he regained a pulse. Employees with Eldorado Canyon State Park, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, and Mountain View Fire Protection District responded to the scene, providing medical treatment and loading the injured climber into a litter for evacuation down the steep, loose terrain.
Once the man was returned to the ground, he was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further medical treatment. In total the technical rescue took around two hours to complete.
Mountain Project rates the Chockstone climbing route as a 5.10a in the Yosemite Decimal System. It is a 165 foot Trad route with three pitches.
