Alberta — One of the most overlooked ski resorts in Canada is Castle Mountain Resort. It’s a vast ski resort with terrain for all ability levels. Part of the reason it’s overlooked is that the ski resort lacks high-speed chairlifts. Well, that’s about to change.

This week, Castle Mountain Resort shared a status report on the Stagecoach Express chairlift and expansion project. The video below details the work they did last offseason and what they’ve accomplished over the past few months. Last year, they purchased the lift, had the new chairlift delivered, installed a new mountain road connecting Huckleberry and Stagecoach, and cut some trails that are a part of the terrain expansion. This past spring, a Spidex Excavator dug into the future foundation and tower locations. The chairlift has been refurbished and put back together. Castle has also obtained the necessary permits, and the environmental work is now underway. Next up for Castle is pouring the concrete foundations for the chairlift. Ultimately, it’s shaping up to be a busy summer at Castle.

Before this expansion, Castle Mountain Resort was already large, with 95+ trails, 6 lifts, and a vertical drop of 2854 feet. This expansion will grow the ski resort’s skiable acreage by more than 25%, with a mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced trails and glades. The Stagecoach expansion is expected to make its debut during the 2025-26 season.
