It’s the middle of autumn for New Zealanders, and that means while our ski season is starting to wind down, they’re starting to think about the beginning of theirs. While none of them are close to opening, several have just seen some proper snowfall this week to get the people excited for an upcoming season.
The sun rose this morning (April 11) to some snow on the mountains. Coronet Peak has a dusting around the area, with some solid accumulation (probably less than an inch, but still notable) in spots near the top of the Coronet Express.
Meanwhile things look fairly similar at both Cardrona and Treble Cone, with Cardrona recording about 10cm of snow in the past seven days according to their snow report. The base of Treble Cone is completely void of snow, but there are some spots of solid accumulation closer to the top. The first snow of the season fell at Treble Cone earlier this week.
Cardrona is set to open on June 15, Treble Cone on June 27, and Coronet Peak on June 14, a little more than two months from now.
