Steve Karczewski
Steve Karczewski

Steve Karczewski was born with bone cancer in his left leg. After unsuccessful attempts to kill off the cancer with chemotherapy and radiation, his left leg was amputated. Throughout his youth, his family pushed him to live as much of a normal life as possible. He began skiing when he was young, getting into ski racing on one leg.

Today Karczewski is a major part of the Aspen community, skiing and mountain biking while testing legs and gear for many companies. Filmmaker Tamara Å uÅ¡a told his story through the short film “2 Legs is 2 Easy”.

Karczewski seems like he’d be a blast to spend a day on the mountain with. His message seems pretty clear to me. He doesn’t want to be treated different or be babied, and he definitely shouldn’t be. He’s skiing better on one leg than most of are on two.
