Beaver, Utah — While Eagle Point Resort was the most notable business to suffer damage from the Cottonwood Fire, many in the community (homeowners and businesses) are dealing with the ramifications.
Earlier this month, Eagle Point Resort announced the launch of a new non-profit. BeaverTuf is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit that was created by Eagle Point’s owner. While financial aid is expected from FEMA and insurance companies, there will likely be gaps. The non-profit is aiming to assist local businesses and homeowners whose lives have been impacted by the past month.

Beaver Flood
This mission appears to be becoming more poignant by the day. Last weekend saw flash flooding in the town of Beaver, caused by mudslides that became ripe for growth from the Cottonwood Fire. SR-153, which is the road leading up to the ski resort, is now facing an extensive closure due to washouts. With a long monsoon season expected, more mudslides are expected in the areas impacted by the Cottonwood Fire.
Media Tours Eagle Point Resort
Earlier this month, members of the media were able to view the damage from the Cottonwood Fire to the ski resort for the first time since the flames swept through it. Eagle Point owner Shane Gadbaw gave additional details beyond their initial assessment, which showed that around half of the skiable acreage was charred by the flames.
Many staff members have been affected by the flames, as 13 full-time workers have been laid off, and around 100 seasonal workers are seeing their schedules impacted.
A timeline for reopening has yet to be formally announced. In a similar situation, Sierra-at-Tahoe had only a brief opening in the latter portion of the 2021-22 season due to the Caldor Fire. However, their damage happened later in the year (September) compared to Eagle Point’s (late June).
