German ski instructor and YouTuber Marius Quast documented his attempt to ski Rambo at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, giving viewers a firsthand look at one of the most intimidating in bounds ski trails in North America.

Rambo is widely recognized as one of the steepest man-made lift served trails in the United States with a maximum pitch of approximately 55 degrees. The trail is not groomed and features exposed rocks, trees, bumps, and narrow lines that demand advanced technical skiing from top to bottom. Before beginning the descent, Quast stood at the base of the run with fellow skier Basti and described the slope as a massive wall.

A Trail That Leaves Little Room For Error

Unlike many expert runs that offer wide open terrain, Rambo is a tree cut trail with forest lining both sides. The natural obstacles remain in place, leaving skiers to navigate around exposed rocks, uneven snow, and tightly spaced trees while carefully selecting their route.

After reaching the summit, Quast explained that the true steepness of Rambo is difficult to appreciate until you stand at the entrance. Much of the trail disappears from view before plunging sharply downhill, creating a dramatic first impression even for experienced skiers. As he prepared to drop in, he described the adrenaline that came with surveying the terrain, noting the combination of steep pitches, natural features, and multiple route choices.

Precision Makes The Difference

Quast ultimately completed the descent and praised the experience afterward. Rather than charging straight down the fall line, skiers and snowboarders must choose a smart line through the trees, bumps, and rocky sections. Rambo is a trail that rewards patience, confidence, and technical skill, and the challenge becomes especially enjoyable once a rhythm is established.

While Crested Butte is home to numerous expert runs, Rambo remains as one of its signature test piece and continues to attract advanced skiers looking to tackle one of the steepest and most technically demanding in bounds trails in the United States.
