Littleton, New Hampshire — Last season was a brief one for Mt. Eustis Ski Hill. A lack of natural snowfall, which is what the Littleton ski hill relies on, led to it being closed most of the ski season.. A large snowstorm allow Eustis to open on March 23rd for night skiing, but that evening was the only time it operated last season.
This season is off to a much better start to Mt. Eustis. Snowfall around Christmas time allowed the ski hill to open for one night during Christmas break. However, it went to way-too-thin cover in just one evening of operations, closing it down again.
Eustis has been closed for a while, as it’s been cold, but not super snowy for the White Mountains. However, this week changed that status quo, with the White Mountains receiving quite a bit of snow. Yesterday, Mt. Eustis announced that it will open tonight starting at 5pm. After tonight, reopening the rope tow on Friday and Saturday seems likely, as more snow is on the way over the next few days.
From there, we’ll have to see if the ski hill continues to operate. However, it appears that the Northeast could continue to have an active period through the next few weeks.
Mt. Eustis has been a community staple since its opening in 1939. However, it closed in 1983, leaving a hole in the Littleton community. In the early 2010s, Littleton locals got together to revive the ski hill in order to provide an affordable option for locals. It reopened back in 2015, and has remained open since. While it’s technically free to ride the rope tow, a $5 donation is suggested, which is the least you can do to keep this local rope tow operation going.
