Waterville Valley, New Hampshire — Mikaela Shiffrin isn’t the only skiing legend who’s chasing 100 victories.
Mikael Kingsbury has had an amazing career. The 32-year-old Canadian has accumulated 94 World Cup dubs, 3 Olympic medals (including one gold), twelve World Cup titles, and 26 Crystal Globes. Last February, he became the skier with the most World Cup mogul victories. At this point in his career, two main goals exist for the legendary mogul skier: get to 100 World Cup victories and add to his Olympic medal collection next year, especially considering that dual moguls will debut at Cortina.
This past weekend, the FIS Freestyle World Cup returned to Waterville Valley for the second consecutive year. The U.S. Ski Team got some great results, with podium finishes for Jaelin Kauf, Nick Page and Olivia Giaccio. Overall, the big winner of the weekend was Kingsbury.
His first victory came during the Moguls event on Friday, January 24th. Mikael’s smooth turns and slick tricks earned him a score of 84.95, 1.4 points above the second medalist: American Nick Page.
Mikael’s success continued the next day. In the Dual Moguls competition, Mikael beat Australian Matt Graham to secure his 94th victory.
After these events, Kingsbury leads in the World Cup standing in Moguls and Dual Moguls. The next events are scheduled in Kingsbury home country, Canada, at Val St. Come. After that is the world famous World Cup events at Deer Valley.
While it’s uncertain if and when Mikael reaches 100 wins, one thing is for certain: we’re witnessing greatness.
