Westernville, New York — Woods Valley isn’t exactly the luckiest ski area on the planet.

In 2021, a tornado touched down in Westernville. The tornado damaged various buildings and lifts, but it was still able to open for the 2021-22 season. The next natural disaster came from something that’s supposed to be friendly towards a ski resort: snow.

Yesterday, Woods Valley Ski Area detailed the operational challenges that it is currently facing. With it being relatively nearby Lake Ontario, it’s seen some decent lake effect snowfall so far this season. By Friday, three feet of heavy snow had fallen at the ski area. This caused trees to fall on the night lights on the CopyCat trail and the T-Bar. While not as catastrophic as the tornado, the New York ski area appears to be without its T-bar for a little while.

Currently, Woods Valley has 20 of its 21 trails open and five of its six trails open. As of Saturday morning, its 48-hour new snow total is now at 41 inches.
