Corbet's Couloir wipeout.
Corbet's Couloir wipeout.

Few ski runs around the world hold recognition quite like Corbet’s Couloir at Jackson Hole in Wyoming. It’s not the hardest couloir on the mountain (the nearby S&S Couloir is usually considered much more difficult), but it’s accessibility and legendary look certainly make it the most famous.

Corbet’s features a 20 foot drop with a 50-degree pitch, putting it among the steepest in-bound slopes in North America. And with the Ariel Tram cruising right by, Corbet’s becomes a stage for skiers and snowboarders hoping to show off their skills. Of course when it goes wrong there’s usually plenty of people to witness it.

Jackson Hole’s Guide To Skiing Corbet’s Couloir:

To tackle Corbet’s Couloir, start by planning your trip to Jackson Hole and brushing up on your skills. JHMR offers a Steep and Deep camp designed to help skiers master advanced techniques. Once you arrive, take a few moments to watch how seasoned skiers approach the run—it’s a perfect mix of skill and style (see the video below). Even experienced skiers find Corbet’s challenging, so only highly experienced skiers and riders should attempt to ski the Couloir. If you hope to ski the Couloir one day, but need to brush up on your skills, check out our Terrain Parks.
