CHILE – Ski Portillo is celebrating the end of an epic winter ski season, with lifts spinning for their last day on Sunday, September 22. The season at the iconic Chilean ski resort was supposed to kick off on June 22, but plentiful early snowfall allowed operations to get started weeks ahead of time on June 1st.
Ski Portillo first opened to skiers in 1949, making winter 2024 their 75th anniversary. June and July continued to provide plenty of snow and great weather for some incredible skiing.
The early few days of August brought a 25 inch storm, with Ski Portillo receiving around 15 inches of snowfall on August 3 alone. At that point, the resort had a total snow total of ~250.7 inches.
Despite closing in a few days, Ski Portillo has a snow depth of just under 25 inches at the hotel. Further up, at Plateau run, there’s still 49.6 inches on the ground. In total throughout the whole season, Portillo has seen nearly 257 inches of snowfall (about 21.5 feet). Salud to Portillo for another memorable ski season!
