Frisco, Colorado — Copper Mountain’s first new chairlift in five years is coming to a guest-favorite terrain pod.
In 2023, Copper Mountain Resort announced that it would be closing the old Timberline Express in 2024. The 1994 detachable quad will be replaced by a detachable high-speed six-pack chairlift from Leitner-Poma. The new Timberline chairlift will increase capacity and access to the Western Territory, which features some of Copper’s best-groomed terrain. This six-pack will have a vertical rise of roughly 1,129 feet, a length of around 4,825 feet, and an uphill capacity of approximately 3,000 riders per hour.
Dustin Lyman, who is the President & General Manager of Copper, described in 2023 the importance of this new chairlift:
“The Timberline Express Chairlift services some of the most popular intermediate terrain. With the introduction of a 6-pack high-speed lift, we are boosting uphill capacity significantly, effectively reducing wait times and granting skiers and riders quicker access to one of our most treasured mountain areas. This upgrade will undoubtedly be a game-changer for Copper Mountain.”
This week, Copper Mountain provided a construction update on the new Timberline Express. So far, they’ve removed the old towers and terminals, and are close to finishing the bottom terminal and lift maintience building. They’ve begun working on the top terminal, with structural work on the top terminal underway. They are planning to install the lift towers in the beginning of October.
Copper’s projected opening date for the public is November 8th. Copper’s new Timberline is expected to open during the 2024-25 season.
