Olympic Valley, California— This past weekend, arguably the world’s most famous pond skim returned.

On May 11th, Palisades Tahoe hosted the 32nd Annual Cushing Crossing. While most ski resorts dig a hole and fill it up with chilly water, Palisades Tahoe uses an actual pond for its competition. Cushing Pond is much bigger than the typical skimming locations, intensifying the challenge for contestants. If you’re curious about the history of this pond skim, Ski Magazine wrote a piece in 2022 about its origins.

One of the most impressive sends this year was from Tim Humphreys. Dressed as Elvis and strumming on a Ukelele, he snowboarded across the Cushing and got in a couple of turns in the pond. Needless to say, he didn’t get caught in a trap.
