Hank Hill must have been terrified by the news at Ski Santa Fe over the weekend.

KQRE reports that a gas leak occurred on Saturday, December 30th, at Ski Santa Fe in New Mexico. At around 9 a.m., a propane tank suffered a malfunction, resulting in a gas leak. Tommy Long, who’s the operations manager for Ski Santa Fe, explained to KQRE how this emergency transpired:

“Our gas company came to fill one of our propane tanks, and unfortunately, during the filling process, there was a complication, and the tank ended up leaking.”

Police ordered an evacuation of the main base lodge. This resulted in around 500-1000 people needing to be evacuated from the building. In addition, the road to the ski resort was briefly shut down. It reportedly took an hour to clean up the leak. A minor injury from a chemical burn was reported, but the individual didn’t end up going to the hospital. In response, Ski Santa Fe kept their chairlifts open thirty minutes later on Saturday.

Outside of this brief scare, Ski Santa Fe has had a good start to its season. Currently, the New Mexico ski resort has 94% of its terrain open, and all of its lifts spinning. El Niño is typically kind to New Mexico, so Ski Santa Fe is an underrated place to check out this winter. Next winter, they’ll even have a new high-speed quad to check out.
