Ski resorts across the country have had a rather rough start to the season. Some mountains are finally starting to see some solid snowfall, some have just a little bit of natural snow, and some are relying entirely on the manmade kind. Resorts with little snow making are certainly struggling the hardest, with some fully unable to open at all so far.
Unfortunately, the #1 ski resort in North America according to USA Today is one of the resorts that’s been unable to get things going. Michigan’s Mount Bohemia has no snow making or grooming, relying fully on the extreme terrain created by natural snow conditions. But, instead of just sitting closed, telling their pass holders to wait until a storm stops by, Mount Bohemia proactively sought out alternative options to keep their customers happy until Mother Nature got with the program and set up quite the deal with multiple midwest ski resorts.
Season pass holders at Mount Bohemia will have unlimited access to skiing at Michigan’s Ski Brule between January 1st and January 14th. Plus, at Minnesota’s Giants Ridge, Mount Bohemia season pass holders will be able to ski fully for free between January 7th and February 4th. Between the two mountains, that’s over a month of free skiing on a pass that wasn’t even for those mountains. I’d say it’s a pretty sweet deal.
Let’s not forget that Mount Bohemia’s season pass cost only $99 if it was purchased between November 22 and December 2. Obviously people not being able to ski the mountain they love isn’t the most ideal situation, But resorts can’t control the weather (at least not yet). And if the mountain can’t open, it’s pretty cool that they’d figure out a way to get their loyal season pass holders on snow.
If you’re a Mount Bohemia season pass holder and you decide to visit one of these mountains, make sure you spend some money and show your support. Let them know A) that you’re grateful to be on snow and B) that they made the right decision in letting Mount Bohemia pass holders on their slopes for free.
