Vail Resorts will launch 'Emma' during the 2018-19 ski season. Emma, which will use artificial intelligence and natural language processing, will be the world's first digital mountain assistant to answer a vast range of guests' questions about their ski vacation at nine of the company's destination resorts. Emma will provide on-demand information in real time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. (PRNewsfoto/Vail Resorts, Inc.)

Move over Alexa, it’s time to make room for Emma. This morning Vail Resorts announced the addition of the “world’s first digital mountain assistant” under the moniker, Emma. The new assistant will be able to provide real-time weather, grooming, and lift updates to its users.

Instead of an app, guests will be able to interface with a digital assistant powered by AI via SMS text message. By simply asking questions, users will find out which lift lines are the shortest and what’s been groomed overnight.

“Guests will instantly receive expert, local information tailored to each resort and to their needs.” – Vail Resorts

Emma will be active starting this March for a select group of users. Vail Resorts plans to release the full version this upcoming season at Vail, Breckenridge, Keystone, Beaver Creek, Park City, Heavenly, Northstar, Kirkwood, and Whistler Blackcomb.
