Utah’s Sundance Mountain Resort is getting ready to open more of the mountain for the 2026-2027 ski season, with a major expansion set to add more than 100 acres of new terrain, a 1.7-mile groomed run, and a brand new high-speed quad lift.
The expansion marks the completion of the first phase of Sundance’s back mountain development, bringing the resort’s total skiable acreage to 605 acres. The project will provide more terrain for skiers and snowboarders to explore while improving access to the resort’s back mountain.
New Electric Horseman Quad Lift
The main focus of this year’s expansion is Electric Horseman, a new high-speed quad that travels more than 1,850 vertical feet per lap. It will reach the top in approximately six minutes, bringing direct access to the back mountain.
The new lift will increase uphill capacity, reduce congestion, and make accessing the entire back mountain possible from a single high-speed lift. This is one of the resort’s largest recent investments in mountain access and follows several major improvements since 2021.
Storyteller Opens New Ridgeline Terrain
The expansion also introduces Storyteller, a 1.7 mile groomed run built on terrain formerly known as the Far East Ridgeline. The new trail is designed as an upper-intermediate run featuring long, sweeping turns and broad mountain views.
Three new expert gladed chutes that run through tree-lined terrain before reconnecting with the base area will also be introduced through the development. This combination gives Sundance new options for intermediate, advanced, and expert skiers.
Sundance Continues Mountain Expansion
The 2026-2027 expansion follows a series of improvements at Sundance over the past several years. In 2021, the ski resort opened up the Outlaw Express bringing the ride to Mandan Summit down from approximately 20 minutes to just seven minutes. More than 50 acres of intermediate terrain and expanded snowmaking capabilities were opened the following year.
In 2024, Mountain Camp Lodge opened to bring lockers, ticketing, ski school, rentals, and other services together into one facility for day visitors.
The back mountain expansion also sets the stage for additional expert terrain development in future seasons, giving Sundance an opportunity to continue growing beyond its newly expanded 605 acres.
