New York — What happens when there’s a major ski resort near the USA’s largest metropolitan hub? It leads to wild finds on cleanup days.
Last month, Hunter Mountain employees shared what they found at this year’s Mountain Cleanup Day. If you remember last year’s one, they found a meatloaf container. Hopefully that was removed with a Hazmat team, because meatloaf is disgusting.
Anyways, this year saw some interesting finds, which included a whole wine bottle, a pasta sauce container, vapes, a cowboy hat from someone who probably thought they were at Steamboat, and lots of fireball. A black bear also made an appearance, likely to get some of that fireball.

Trent Poole, who was General Manager at Hunter Mountain, has been appointed as the new Vice President and General Manager at Heavenly. He’s been with Vail Resorts for more than 21 years, previously working at Breckenridge, Keystone, Jack Frost Big Boulder, and Mad River Mountain. Poole had been the General Manager at Hunter and saw the ski resort’s major lift replacements in 2024.
“Trent is a passionate and charismatic leader with deep experience across mountain operations, finance, and project management at Vail Resorts,” said Tim Baker, Senior Vice President of Vail Resorts’ Regional Destination Resorts. “Along with his extensive experience and business acumen, he understands the importance of authentic connection and teamwork in bringing a vision to life. His leadership style makes him exceptionally well-suited to lead the Heavenly team and build on the resort’s momentum in partnership with employees, guests, and the broader community.”
Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of the constant leadership rotation at Vail Resorts’ mountains. Having tenured General Managers is valuable for ski resorts, as it takes time to learn the ins and outs of a resort and to build connections with the community. It’s especially valuable at Hunter Mountain, which sees major crowds from New York City.
Regardless, shoutout to Trent for his great work at Hunter over the past few years, and we believe he’ll do great at Heavenly.
