A family of rafters has filed a formal denial of allegations made in a counterclaim brought by Boise County Commissioner Darrell “Lindy” Lindstrom and two co-defendants stemming from a violent altercation on the banks of the Payette River in August 2025, according to Idaho News 6.

The Beard family, including Abby Beard, Treyson Beard, and a minor identified in court documents as T.B., originally sued Lindstrom alongside Lloyd Asher and Bo Fisher, alleging the defendants threatened, harassed, and physically attacked them. Photos from the incident show plaintiffs suffering blunt force injuries and knife wounds.

Lindstrom’s counterclaim tells a different story. The commissioner contends that he and members of his party, several of whom were riding jet skis, were the ones who came under attack. Lindstrom alleges that Abby Beard brandished a knife at him, and that when he attempted to disarm her, Treyson Beard and T.B. struck him. The defendants are seeking a full dismissal of the original lawsuit and are alleging assault, battery, and negligence against the plaintiffs, with a request for monetary damages exceeding $10,000 plus attorney fees.

The Beard family’s attorney, Terri Pickens, provided Idaho News 6 with video footage of the incident and its aftermath. In one clip, Lindstrom is seen holding a beer while speaking with a Boise County Sheriff’s deputy. The deputy’s body camera appears to have been shut off shortly after the exchange.

The Beard family’s lawsuit seeks more than $100,000 in damages. Both parties have requested a jury trial, now scheduled for December 8th, 2027, with a pre-trial conference set for November 12th, 2027.
