Teton Village, Wyoming — Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has undeniably changed since its early years. These days, the experience at Teton Village caters more to the luxury traveler. Mangy Moose is one of the independent holdouts and has been a fixture at the ski resort since 1967. However, a change by the restaurant and bar has divided their fanbase.
This week, the Mangy Moose announced a new ski club in a partnership with Black Tie Ski Rentals of Jackson Hole. Members get a range of benefits, including a ski locker, valet service for your gear, access to a fireside lounge, food and beverage credit, and more. The cost? $9,800 or $8,800 for a transferable property (such as a condo). If interested, you can email skiclub@mangymoose.com.
Reaction was mixed. Some saw the situation as the opposite of the brand that has attracted both tourists and locals for decades.
Here was the saloon’s response to the blowback:
“We hear you, and we understand why people are concerned. The Mangy Moose you know and love isn’t going away. All parts of the Moose will remain open and accessible to the public. If you want to do après at the saloon, pull up a seat, member or not. The Ski Club will not change the character, spirit, or accessibility of the Moose.
We love that you love the Moose, and recognize it’s been a Jackson Hole institution for generations. We’re committed to keeping it that way.”
If you do want to store your skis in the Village, it should be noted that there are other options besides spending $9,800.
