A dispute that occurred in the Arapahoe Basin parking lot last week brings up a major debate surrounding what is and what isn’t acceptable in ski area parking lots.

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, a woman was verbally harassed while holding a parking spot for her husband. Another driver had attempted to take the spot and the woman informed them that her husband would be there shortly. The driver refused to leave despite the woman’s explanation.

The driver began to yell at the woman, telling her to leave, while the woman refused to budge. The police were called and deputies investigated, determining that there were no threats made and the woman was not struck by the vehicle. As such, it was simply considered a verbal disagreement.

This situation brings up the debate surrounding parking spot saving at ski resorts and whether or not it’s acceptable. This is a debate that’s existed for a while, but one that we think has a pretty straight forward answer. Parking spot saving is not acceptable, especially on crowded days like a closing weekend. If the car isn’t there, you don’t own the spot.
