A 38-year-old Massachusetts man was transported to the Dartmouth-Hitchock Medical Centerย by helicopter after a severe snowmobile crash left him injured in New Hampshire.

According to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, Brandon Roe of Hanson, Massachusetts was operating his snowmobile on Primary Trail 146 in Pittsburg, New Hampshire, at around 1pm on Saturday, January 24th, when he lost control of the machine. He was negotiating a downhill left-hand turn when he lost control and was subsequently thrown over a steep embankment.

His riding companions and bystanders who came upon the crash provided immediate aid, with Roe sustaining injuries, and a satellite personal locator beacon was used to notify first responders. Another rider rode to a nearby business to make an additional 911 call and provide better details.

The Pittsburg Fire Department, 45th Parallel EMS, Pittsburg Police Department and a Conservation Officer responded to the incident. A DHART helicopter was requested by responding personnel based on the severity of the injuries, and the Pittsuburg Fire Department utilized rescue snowobiles to access the crash site.

Roe was brought from the crash site to an awaiting 45th Parallel EMS Ambulance stage roadside. From there he was brought to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook before eventually being transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center by DHART Helictoper.

While the crash is still under investigation, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department points toward both inexperience and unreasonable speed in the existing conditions as factors in the accident. Conservation Officers encourage snowmobile operators to always operate in a reasonable and prudent manner for all existing trail conditions.
