Dresser, Wisconsin — October skiing and riding are expected to happen in Wisconsin thanks to the intricate covering of snow from last winter.
Anticipation is building for Open Haugen Weekend, which will feature a range of activities, including skiing on snow. On October 4th and 5th, Trollhaugen will have lift-served skiing thanks to one of its rope tows. Skiing and riding will be available on October 4th and 5th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration for skiing and snowboarding will open on September 19th.
You may wonder how Trollhaugen can accomplish something like this, especially with it not being certain what the weather will be. The answer is that each spring, workers tarp off a large amount of snow and place tires on top of it to prevent warm winds from getting in there. As demonstrated by a recent flyover from Midwest Skiers, the snow is still in great shape and will make it into October.
Some of the other activities planned include scenic lift rides, hay rides around the base area, a ski swap, a sale at the ski shop, a vendor village, and the bar & grill being open. For those looking to pick up their passes, the ticket office will also be open.
Situated in Wisconsin, Trollhaugen is one of the Midwest’s most famous ski areas. This is partly due to its terrain park network, which has gained national prominence. The ski resort features 30 trails across 80 skiable acres, 8 lifts, and a vertical drop of 280 feet. Trollhaugen’s 100% snowmaking coverage typically makes it among the first not only in the region, but also in the country. The skol-themed fun continues throughout the day and night there, as it’s home to lights on 100% of its terrain. The Wisconsin ski area used to be an active spot during the summer as well, but an increase in liability costs made its crew decide to shut down the adventure park.
