New England — As uphill skiing gains popularity, understanding the associated policies has become increasingly complex. However, a relatively new New England multi-mountain pass has made the uphill skiing experience easier.
Launched in 2023, Uphill New England has shortened the process to skin up and ski back down the mountain. The pass simplified the typically needed waiver, check-in, and access process. They’ve slowly grown their partner network to 22 ski resorts, including Killington and Waterville Valley Resort. There’s also an app that tracks your needed waivers, check-in, and stats, along with a WhatsApp group that connects you to other skiers and riders.
The Uphill New England Pass, which gives unlimited access to 22 ski resorts, costs between $185 and $215. The 22 members are Berkshire East, Big Moose Mountain, Black Mountain of Maine, Bolton Valley, Bromley, Camden Snow Bowl, Catamount, Cranmore, Dartmouth Skiway, Gunstock, Jiminy Peak, Killington, King Pine, Magic Mountain, Middlebury Snowbowl, Mt. Abram, Pico, Saddleback, Saskadena Six, Tenney Mountain, Waterville Valley, and Whaleback.
New this year is a membership option. This $40 pass gives you two days of uphill access at any of the participating resorts. Other perks include the chance to use the app, an invitation to join the WhatsApp group chat, being able to participate in the vertical leaderboard, and entry into an end-of-season raffle. This membership is meant as a way to introduce new uphillers to the sport.
