Park City, Utah — With two major changes on the Canyons side underway, another major project is planned for next offseason (subject to approvals).
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Park City Mountain Resort and Canyons Village Management Association are planning to replace the Cabriolet lift with a new gondola for the 2026-27 season, pending approvals. The difference with this one would be that it will be an enclosed gondola.
First opened in 2000, the Cabriolet serves as the way that most day-trippers reach the Canyons Village. The open-air gondola offers a different experience, but some people don’t enjoy it due to the lack of seats. With the lift being open-air, it also lacks protection from the elements. Another factor is that it’s not conducive to bikers, who are a popular user group during the summer months. Similar lifts exist at Blue Mountain (Ontario), Mountain Creek, Tremblant, and Winter Park.
On July 14th, a meeting will be held at the Grand Summit Hotel in Park City to discuss the replacement.
The news follows two major projects underway in the Canyons Village. The first is the culmination of a multi-year project to replace the Sunrise chairlift with a gondola, which will have its top terminal adjacent to the Red Pine Lodge. I do wonder if they should’ve had it end at Tombstone, but I guess it’s too late now. That gondola is expected to open for the 2025-26 season. The other project is the construction of a parking garage at the Cabriolet parking lot. The two-year project, which will feature 1850 parking spaces, is expected to open during the 2026-27 season.
