Professional mountain biker Markus ‘Max’ Stöckl traveled with a six-person team to a desolate mountain in Chile’s Atacama Desert for this project he named “V-Max” with the objective to set a world a record for speed.
Stöckl already held the record which he set on a 102mph descent of Cerro Negro, a volcanic cone in Nicaragua, but he knew with the right terrain and few minor adjustments he bump up his speed.
Donning a red speed suit for aerodynamics, Stöckl mounted his purpose built bike, stepped on the pedals and held on for dear life. In the end Stöckl achieved a max speed of 104mph, a record that no one has attempted to beat since.
