New Zealand — Last year, The Remarkables had the biggest offseason improvement out of any ski resort in New Zealand and (arguably) the Southern Hemisphere. While this offseason wasn’t as noteworthy, the 40th season at The Remarkables is still shaping up to be a memorable one.
On Saturday, The Remarkables opened up for the 2025 season. A decent amount of snowfall, along with low temperatures, allowed the New Zealand ski area to open Curvey Basin, Alta, and the loading conveyors.
In late May, The Remarkables detailed what they worked on over the offseason.
Snowmaking work continued over at Shadow Basin, which saw a new high-speed six-pack chairlift open over there last year. Two more snowguns have been added to Shadow Basin. In addition, water pipelines and hydrants have also been added to Shadow Basin’s cat-track trail, allowing for earlier openings and more reliable conditions. Fences have also been added to the Shadow Basin’s cat-track trail to protect guests who wipe out.
Earthwork has been done on their Big Jump Line, leading to better jump shapes. New features are also planned for the terrain park. Earthwork has also been done to regrade the learning area.
Lastly, new RFID gates have been added to Curvey Basin.
In addition, The Remarkables has a new mascot! The cute yet rambunctious little fella is named Kevin, and he’s been brought in to promote Kea conservation.
From here until October 12th, The Remarkables will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
