A section of Alberta’s Waterton Lakes National Park that borders Montana is now closed for bear management activities.
The closure is in the Cameron Lake area, including the Akamina Parkway from Little Prairie day-use area to Cameron Lakboe, the Akamina Pass Trail from the Akamina Parkway to the British Columbia border, the Carthew-Alderson Trail from Cameron Lake day-use area to Carthew Pass, the Boundary Creek Trail from Summit Lake to the border with the United States, and land connecting the mentioned areas.

Section 36(1) of the National Parks General Regulations of the Canada National Parks Act gives park superintendents the ability to close any area in the Park to public use or traffic for as long as they deem necessary to prevent any seasonal or temporary danger to persons, flora, fauna or natural objects.
Anyone who chooses to violate the closure may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act and could face a maximum penalty of $25,000.
