It’s fairly warm down here in Denver with temperatures set to reach the high 60s today and around 70° on Friday. But things are looking quite a bit different in the mountains this morning.
Only two resorts are still open in Colorado, Arapahoe Basin and Winter Park. Both mountains were lucky enough to wake up to a mid-May powder day this morning, with more than half a foot landing on their slopes.
7 inches of snow have fallen in the past 24 hours at Arapahoe Basin, bringing their base up to 57 inches. 4 of 9 chairlifts are spinning this morning, Black Mountain Express, Lenawee Express, Zuma Lift, and the Lazy J Tow, with 29 of 127 trails open to skiers and snowboarders. Arapahoe Basin is yet to announce a closing date and will celebrate Gay Basin this upcoming weekend.
Things were a bit deeper over the past 24 hours at Winter Park, with 9 inches of snow reportedly falling. Winter Park has 6 open lifts and 53 of 171 trails open to skiers and snowboarders, all in Mary Jane and Parsenn Bowl. Despite their 43 inch base and the new snowfall, Winter Park is set to shut down operations for the summer after this Sunday, May 18.
